- Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift (SBD).
- This sport measures an athlete's absolute strength and technical capabilities regarding each lift.
- The sport is scored using what is referred to as a “total", which is the sum of the three squat attempts, three bench press attempts and three deadlift attempts.
- Many athletes aim for a 9 for 9 on competition day. This is achieved by receiving three white lights for each lift which means the lift was successful based on the rules of IPF (International Powerlifting Federation).
